Erase Errata
French Canadia
Other Animals (2001)

No, seriously, I’m not planning to disappear completely. Here’s proof!

Every Canada Day is always a bit of a contest: what kind of songs can you pull out to commemorate Canada? (Fill in “Fourth of July” and “United States” in three days’ time.) Once you get past the Stompin’ Tom and the Tragically Hip, things start to get a little more interesting. Well, today I’ll make the faux pas of posting a song about Canada that wasn’t actually written or performed by Canadians.

Actually, it’s not really about Canada either. But that’s more because the song’s not really about anything. As a fist-raising anthem to repeat mindlessly like a four-year-old, though, you can’t beat it. It’s “French Canadia” by Erase Errata, and it’s as fun a song about Canadian geography as you’re likely to get. So blare it from the speakers, chant it to the rooftops, and… uh… confuse the hell out of your neighbours, who will no doubt wonder what on earth that clanging racket is next door.

To Queen and country!
